MECOB docents are priceless because they provide an invaluable service to help us educate, enlighten, and entertain our visitors of all ages from the WNY community and beyond. To provide docent enrichment experiences, MECOB runs a yearly docent workshop in the spring and a docent trip in the fall. More resources are listed below.

The mission of the National Docent Symposium Council is to promote continuous improvement in docent practice by facilitating communication and collaborative interaction among U.S. and Canadian volunteer docent/guides. This is accomplished through biennial symposia, sales of The Docent Handbook and with their interactive website.
The New York State Education Department is responsible for setting student learning expectations (standards) for what all students should know and be able to do as a result of skilled instruction. Each local school district develops curricula based on these established standards.
The American Alliance of Museums’ mission is to champion museums and nurture excellence in partnership with our members and allies.
